PA windshield repairs
We fixed our windshield after a rock made a chip on a road trip using the Permatex repair kit. It worked very well and was easy to do! It only took a few hours to complete the job in one evening. Most of that time was spent waiting between each step while the resin was hardening. The repair has held up great after several months of driving. If you buy the kit online it will only cost you about depending on which kit you buy. We ended up paying to buy one at the local auto parts store.
Here is the kit we used on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-09103-Windshield-Repair-Kit/dp/B000ALJ4MY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472334120&sr=8-1&keywords=permatex+windshield+repair+kit
Likely other brand kits would work well too. We did this on a very hot day. The instructions said to do it when temperatures are between 45 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit but it was about 90 to 100 degrees and it still worked great! Watch the video to see how we kept the windshield cool.
If you have insurance that pays for windshield repair you can sometimes have this done for free. Also some windshield companies like Techniglass will also sometimes do free windshield repairs if you purchased a windshield from them. If you don't have any kind of free coverage then you can save yourself a lot of money by buying the kit and doing this yourself. Not hard to do. Maybe even worth buying a kit just in case your windshield has a chip or very small crack that you can repair quickly before the crack spreads. Replacing a windshield can be very expensive compared to the price of a do it yourself kit. Try it!
Permatex also has a how to video but ours shows more detail that I think is helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eupXcI8hH8
